(Phnom Penh): During Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s official visit to Indonesia as President of the Senate, Indonesia’s national airline, Garuda Indonesia, announced its intention, and ongoing study, to launch a direct flight route from Jakarta to Siem Reap province, Cambodia, in an effort to further promote tourism exchange between the two countries.
Chem Widhya, Chairman of the Senate Committee for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Media, and Information, spoke on Friday (May 9) during a press conference on the outcomes of Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s official visit to Indonesia and Timor-Leste.
Chem Widhya underscored, “In addition to the existing AirAsia route connecting Phnom Penh and Jakarta, Garuda Indonesia is now exploring the possibility of launching a direct flight to Siem Reap. This new route could begin operations in the near future.”
He added that the initiative aims to strengthen tourism ties and facilitate increased tourist flows between Indonesia and Siem Reap.
Chem Widhya further highlighted that during high-level talks between Indonesian leaders and Samdech Techo Hun Sen, both countries reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation, particularly in the fight against transnational crimes, including scamming and drug trafficking, which continue to pose significant global challenges.
