Tokyo (FN), Dec. 16 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that during his visits abroad, the most important objective is to make efforts to attract foreign markets, not for personal benefit but for the people and the national economy.

The premier spoke in a meeting with the Cambodian community in Japan on Saturday (Dec. 16).

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underscored that, “in general, the primary focus of overseas visits is the economy, aiming to attract people by showcasing Cambodia's products and opportunities. […] As a prime minister, it is crucial to visit, advertise, and inform investors about the government's commitment to facilitate investment, ultimately creating more job opportunities for the people.”

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that his plans for the three-day visit to Japan is to meet in person with the presidents of over 600 Japanese companies. The premier also participated in forums and online meetings, aimed at showcasing Cambodia's potential to Japanese investors. The objective is to encourage Japanese investment in Cambodia, with the ultimate goal of boosting employment opportunities for the Cambodian population.

Additionally, Samdech Thipadei confirmed his efforts to attract investors. His meetings with Japanese private companies serve as a signal to encourage the foreign private sector, aiming to bring benefits to both the country and the people of Cambodia.

"And the outcome of this approach is not about benefiting Manet personally but about engaging in investments to connect the Cambodian and Japanese economic chains. It's about linking people with people and technology with technology to facilitate the flow of Japanese investment and technology," Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei added that the effort to attract foreign investors to Cambodia aims to expand the labor market for Cambodians. Individuals who have worked in Japanese factories and gained technological expertise, upon completing their terms, will return to Cambodia, bringing valuable knowledge for other jobs within the country. This, in turn, becomes a significant factor in enhancing the national economy and alleviating poverty.

Samdech Thipadei continued that the seventh-mandate Royal Government prioritizes economic growth, employment, and poverty reduction as three of its five primary goals, considering them the most crucial objectives. The promotion of the Royal Government of Cambodia to attract investment is not only in Japan, but everywhere around the world.
